Ruby`s Roses Block

This is the block as I received it.The embroidery is done by Cathy L.,Kathy S. and Meg W. members of the Crazy quilting International group I belong to.

First I had to add some thing on a bigger scale to go with the big pink rose on the left side.It is a applique that I beaded and added a tatted butterfly with pearls.

Now I made my sweet little Silk Ribbon Wild Rose . I wanted it to be very light and just added a few lace flowers.

So here is my work right next to each other.

This is the completed block. When I look at it,I get the feeling of walking through a wonderful garden and yes you can smell the Roses.

Knitted Socks

This is the last pair of socks for my son. I have new sock yarn he has not seen yet and I will have to hide it when he comes home. I`m sure he will ask me to knit more because he likes to match his socks and ties when he is working televised games for Kansas State University.

This is the completed block, I had so much more to put on there but the block was not big enough! It was very hard to let it go, I had only used inspiration from the part of Germany where I`m from. We have lot`s of castle`s,our Dinkelacker brewery in the middle of Stuttgart,Wine is made in almost every little town around the area,every bakery has pretzel`s,The Autobahn with VW Bugs,The Black Forest with the cuckoo clocks and of course the dog had to be included, a German shepherd and don`t over look the gummy bears from Haribo.

My Gift from the Global Christmas Swap update

As you may remember I had a swap partner from New Zealand for the Global Christmas Swap. As with so many of us life happened and Carol was able to finally mail these awesome gifts. A quilting magazine,so different ,just a few patterns and a lot more about quilts and people who make them.

Can you guess what it is?

A big sheet of wonderful yeast dough with sweet poppy seed,steusel and glaze.And here we go ,a slice for now but I`m sure it will be more before the day is over.

I had started to make plans to go home and visit friend` s and family that I have not seen since we moved here to Kansas in 1999 from Germany. But we just have to much going on still not finished with remodeling the house, my son wants to take some summer classes,the boys might be moving to a new place, register our four cars and my boss is thinking about retiring. So I will have to stay here ,work as much as I can to save some money. I was already making plans to get a Bretzel from the bakery every morning. So I did the next best thing today and baked. Poppyseed Streuselkuchen with a sugar and lemon juice glaze.

Another Block with embroidery finished today

The Autumn Block after my addition of the Red tree,Kansas Sunflower's with silk ribbon and french knot centers and Sunflower lace.

The tree top is felted with several shades of red ,orange and yellow wool roving's,embroidered with variegated floss and beaded with several shades of red and orange iridescent glass beads.

Hand painted the Sunflower lace with Jacquard fabric Paint .

Brown glass beads where stitched on to the lace for more texture.

Alice asked for texture on her block, so I gave her a felted,embroidery and beaded tree.Hand painted and beaded sunflower lace added and a few bird charms to complete my work .

AsianNights Block for Peggy

This is the completed block with Jewelry pouch, embroidered fan, beads and coins.Close up of the fan shows a little embroidery with beads.

When I was reading the instruction booklet for this DYB RR I knew I had to make a fan.So to bring the pastel color from the top fabric patch in I decided to make the jewelry pouch with pink on the inside and pink tassel's. I had fun with this one as always I worry how the Owner of the block feel about it.

Colorful socks for my son

I will be looking for this yarn again, love the color combination,just right for spring.

I was so surprised when my son picked this yarn for socks,but he was right I too love the way they look. He will wear them to work with dress shirts and ties to complement each other. He is very picky about his cloth and shoes ,so I`m off to start the next pair for him.

So happy to have finished this Wall hanging with the blocks from the Oriental RR. I used a satin fabric as a border and machine quilted it . This reminds me of spring with all these wonderful colors.

This time I got green and yellow,the fabrics are just as nice as the hot pink and turquoise ones I got the first time. The colors are so stimulating,I`m ready to make some blocks and hope my other special order will come in soon .

About Gummi Bears and German Chocolate

You always need chocolate and gummi bears ,this was a real surprise today.My Boys will be happy,they miss all the German candies,kinder eggs and other sweets that we use to buy.

I wish I could walk through the stores at home and look at the magazines and yarn ,pick out what I would like to have anytime I feel like it.That's why I`m always so happy to receive these knitting magazines .

I would not have picked the black and the blue yarn but I do love the red/purple one.

Lace and Pearls a new RR

This is my block for the Lace and Pearls RR. I `m working on a cream on cream wallhanging and this will be part of it.

Look at this face ,I think she is stunning.

My name is a short form of Margarita and it means Pearl,so what better way to play on it then this wonderfull theme Lace and Pearls.I`m so exited to see it on it`s way to get embellished.

Thank`s to my wonderful husband who has been cleaning and cooking I was able to work on another block today. This little Tree Fairy is ready to play with all the others in my box.One more done,so many more to do! I guess I have just been collecting all this wonderful work that was done to all the blocks and never stitched my own blocks. Is this a sign of "Hording"?

This block was finished last night ,I used trim,beads ,charms and lace.Some of the flowers I made and others are store bought.The Forget -Me- Not is one of my favorite flowers,I always plant them every year and have several different varieties in my garden.

Nicki Lee`s Roses Block is on the move

This is the block after my work was completed.

I use the pink and black ribbon added seam treatments and beads,placed the black Rose wit pink pearls.

All of my work in one shot.

Cast on Roses with dragon fly charms.

I choose this are to work on because the zick zack stitch on the doily bothered me, so I placed the pink rick rack over it added stitches and glass beads .

I love this block,it was so easy to work on and I had fun doing IT! Mt little basket with silk ribbon roses is my favorite so far. I do hope it will be to Nicki Lee`s liking,such a wonderful block.

Asian Night Blocks ready to be embroidered

My choice for this RR was wonderful woven Jaquards , velvet and cotton.

I used only fabrics I bought from India and have three embelished pieces that will be added to some of the blocks.These colors are just so vibrant and it will be intersting to see what my RR friends come up with.

This is what he wanted.I thought he was joking but he really liked the colors and since he has a Tie collection in every color and shade of every color to go with his new socks I have started to knit some more for him. He does wear them when he is working for the K-State Athletic department on televised Game Days.So awesome my socks get to be on national TV and no one knows that I made them.

Silk Ribbon Roses,beads,hand painted lace.

A seam treatment with pearls,glass beads,silk ribbon and velvet leafs.

This resin cabochon is attached with glass beads.

My work is done and the block is going to the next Round Robin Participant to be stitched on. Because of all these porcelain roses,the floss was tangled and ribbed a few times, it was a pain in the you know what to work on this otherwise wonderful block.It has a lot of embellishments and very little stitching .This is something that has bothered me,it should be all about the embroidery with some embellishments and not the other way around.That`s just how I feel about it!

Oh you all knew that I could not wait to try this new felting yarn so here it is Size 8 needles and just a few hours and they are done.This is what I started out with, my husband and kids laughed about the "size"..

Washed them 3 times and now you can see just right. I used the plastic insert that came with another pair of shoes I knew it would come in handy one day,so I had saved it.

My new slippers are still wet and I`m thinking I might want to decorate them somehow? I will have to wait till they are dry and see what I can do.This was fun to do.

I`m almost done setting the table for my guest`s.This year I decided on Blue ,White and Red. Tables center piece with Sylvia's table cloth just in from Germany.

Thank `s to my friend Heike,she gave me 2 of these pillow cases years ago and they are just perfect .

My friend Sylvia sent me the table cloth and for the first time I `m using my Spode Plate Collection for Dinner with pier 1 Redbird plates I bought 2 years ago.

Because of my back problems I was not able to bake and decorate a lot this year but I have my Boys home and that's all I need.

I got another Surprise box from Germany.This is the book that was mailed with two packages of wool to knit slippers and then felt it in the waschmaschine.

It even has a set of bamboo needles in each pack!

Two packs of this yarn,enough for a jacket or two Boleros if I was half the size I`m.

And after knitting I will be able to rest in this therapeutic soaking bath oil.

I love all these Surprise packages my friends send ,they always know what to get me ,to make me very happy.

This is the second set of three blocks,I have used everything I could find silk ribbon,charms,beads,lace ,cabochons and floss.

The colors do not show some of the embroidery as good as you can see it in person on the block ,maybe it is the light?

Hand quilted Christmas gift

This is a table runner I made for the Global Christmas swap. My swap partner is Carol in New Zealand.

I made three of these blocks added a border and binding. I have not hand quilted in years but for this I think it was the best choice I made and ended up with sore and bloddy fingers.

I have also packed these German" must have" Christmas cookies and hope Carol and her family will enjoy them.

Embroidery for today

Silk Ribbon,lace ,beads and charms on Cream on Cream CQ Blocks .

I have signed up for a Nickle swap. We have to make nine five inch blocks with 1/2 inch seam, completely finished. Each block has to have 3 seams and should be cream on cream.

This is my first set of 3 and as you can see it is hard to work with cream on cream only. A little stretching with shades of cream but the end results will be awesome.

I bought two cans of plums at Aldi and decided this morning to make a almond dough and put some cinnamon streussel on top. It smells so good. Well I had to cut a piece for my friend Doris to take home and tasted just a small sliver,yes I`m making some whip cream and have another piece.

I love Fall and to work on this wonderful block was fun.I first added the leaf in the upper right corner ,it is a crewel design I have on one of my antique pillows.The seam treatment with the green and yellow leafs was next and to finish my work on this block I hand painted a lace motive and attached it with beads.

Embroidered Roses

I had fun with this X-Stitch and silk ribbon embroidery. The Rose lace is hand painted and a simple charm added.

This dark red silk ribbon rose is bringing the color from the background fabric and my X- stitch roses together,more pink roses in the lace next to the green seam treatment finish my part in this block.

Another UFO finished

I don`t remember how long ago I have made this top but after I was done quilting my friends quilt I decided to quilt this top with the same blue thread. The angels background was quilted with white and it is all just free motion machine quilting.

The finished quilt ,not sure if it will end up on a wall or the table,it is not my style,to plain and primitive,I think it was a design from a Australian quilting magazine and I had added the stars to bring a little more color in. So I will have to find a good new home for it.Maybe it will grow on me?It does look rather sweet on my backyard flower trellis with all the dead vines around it as a backdrop.

My friend Doris made this quilt top for her nephew in Germany and as always I got to quilt it.Since this will be used daily and dragged around I just did some stippling.

This flower girl is my Front cover.I used batting in between the pages ,I did not want to give it a stiff appearance but sweet and soft.

Our Wedding date October 30,1981 .My flower bouquet had yellow roses.This round piece of a rose embroidery is from an unfinished tablecloth i had gotton at a German flee market and thought it made the perfect addition to this page,on the right side a piece of a table cloth from Turkey used on the edge.

My heart belongs to my Husband and yes we are the Love birds!

The first two pages of my new book,completed and ready to add the next page,but I have to work on a few CQ blocks first.So this will have to wait till next week end.

My Mom loves green, so here is the first set I made for her to wear with a brown winter jacket.The yarn was almost lace yarn and I used a size 2mm needle set,I like how fine and thin it is.

A little more robust ,sock yarn but also used a 3mm needle to knit ,a everyday set for my Mom .

These two set`s of gloves and scarf will go to my Mom tomorrow. I hope she will get it before the first snow comes in Germany.

Anniversary Dinner

We had lunch with our boys at La Fiesta in Abiline Kansas today for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. The food was good as always and after 1/2 a margarita I needed a nap. For dinner I have a roll with sweet cherry marmelade made by my friend Sylvia in germany. We use to buy these big black bing cherrys right next to the exit on the Autobahn,they where so good ,sweet and hugh. I miss that,also picking Wetterauer strawberries.

First Fabric Book

The front cover was made with folded flowers.Our family enjoys the asian lifestyle,with my husband being from the Philippines no big surprise there,I love the Japanese fabrics and history behind it. After reading the book The Geisha I started to collect antique kimono fabrics.

This is for Beryl, from our Anything Goes DYB. She had no restrictions on our creativity and I stayed with her colors. Just blues and greens,crochet the little flower with three layers all beads and lace.

My dog is now kenneled up when I go to work and she hates it. But today was a short day and I was able to finish this wonderful block I have been working on.

My laundry room, there was a cat cut out where my dog has already removed the brush part. I don`t know how she even fits into this opening, but you can see there is some blood on the floor ,the door and the wood splinters. My dog has no teeth! So how does she do it?

I got a big surprise package from Germany,new birkis, 2 sets of flannel Duvet Covers,solar lanterns and magazines and news papers. Some of the sweets are in my belly and the rest is on it`s way to my children's house to share the surprise.

This is my own made up design.

The yarn pattern did not line up exactly but I`m O.K. with that little design flaw.

My first pair of socks with a small cable design on the side.Now I will go and look for a pattern I have saved for some time and see if I can get more adventures in knitting socks

I just loved this theme block and the owner Darlene requested nothing modern, more a little antique, so I placed some lace,with beading and embroidered the silk ribbon basket on top of a seam that was frayed..The woodland creatures needed to be on this block so the owl and rabbit charm got their spot on this lovely block.

My dear husband is my hand model and he did very well for his first time,thank you honey .

No it is not snowing but I have started to knit my Christmas gifts for this year.So here is the first one done.Gloves ,yes this was my first pair and I will have to make more and change a few things that I did not like about the pattern.They do fit well and it was something different to work on.

Candji`s DYB Tone on Tone Block

One of my favorites is the Tone on Tone Blocks. I made mine cream on cream and so did Candji. It was a easy choice on what to do. First I added a crochet Napkin ring that was made by my friend Dorise's grandma in Germany. On top of it I placed a little round Tenariffa lace .A very plain seam treatment and a whole lot of flowers and beads. I do like the way it came together and I hope that Candji likes it too.

I made only half of the dough from the recipe ,which gave me 16 pieces.

My sons came over to watch the US Women Soccer Team play in Germany, all Soccer Fans here! So I made some Belgian Waffle's and watched the game,not to happy with the loss but it was a good game. Japan was so deserving of the win.

My poor dad had to wear my youngest sons shoes to work in the yard this morning,I don`t know how many sizes to big,but he just said nothing hurts they are comfortable maybe I will get some to take home.We also bought him a baseball cap but he did not like the Adidas sign on it, is it a knock off he asked?

This is my Bobi mailbox from Finland,took almost six month to get here and I`m still waiting on the custom Thumb latch to come. Never order anything from Mailboxixchange ,I have a horror story to tell about them! But I do love my red Bobi.

Fairy Block for Laurie

One of my favorite themes the Fairy`s. This is my block completed for Laurie in MI. I wanted the block to look like someone just moved the bushes apart and there is the little fairy sitting with her animal friends. On the left side I used silk ribbon for the leaves and glass beads for the flowers on the right side I used glass leaves and silk ribbon for the flowers, a few bird and butterfly charms with a rabbit button finished this for me.

Dampfnudeln Sunday dinner

My dad has not had these Dampfnudeln in 20 years. So today I made my first potful of yeast dough steamed rolls to go with our Pork roast and onion gravy. It was so good and reminded me of the time my grandma use to make them. I will make them more often now,even sweet as a dessert with fresh fruit .

I had started a new pair of socks when my mom said this yarn would make a nice sweater. Googled and found the yarn online,got some more and here is the finished product. My mom is modeling it but just keep in mind I`m with more meat on my bones!

Running behind,quick update

This was a great block to work on, I just handdyed the lace and as Cathy said she is a fan of hearts and flowers.That`s what she got! Some 3-D flowers ,a little stitching beads and velvet leafs on top of couched down organza ribbon.

I have been very busy with my parents here visiting and all the fun stuff was put aside.Here is the update on the Tone on Tone block for Cathy. It is done and on it`s way to Finland.

We had to water early this morning, the water was to hot last night. My harvest for today is enough for our dinner salad. Cucumbers,banana peppers and a medley of radishes.

My dad loves Butterzopf, it`s a plain yeast-butter dough that is braided and has an egg wash with sugar on top.So I baked one late last night and it was ready for breakfast this morning . With butter and marmalade just the perfect way to start a day.

New Baby Quilt

A quilt for a Baby Boy, I hope my friend Doris will like the finished quilt,she had pieced the top and added the borders. We had bought the fabric last year on a trip to Hays Kansas , now new MOM to be Bethany will receive it tomorrow at her Baby shower.

Fun Backing

I have just finished machine quilting this colorful Baby Quilt.Simple stippling in bright green. I love to do pieced binding and look at the polka dot fabric as backing,just a fun project. At least something new to blog about not just cleaning the house with my mom.But we will be back in the Garage to do some more cleaning and organizing. Pictures to follow when my new garage doors are in.

Lorries Fairies block is ready to be mailed. She wanted us to stay within the colors of her block and I can`t wait to see the finished wall hanging. The green lace was my first addition and then I used Lorries hankie with the green lace. Lots of beading, flowers and two small fairies to finish my work.
